This is the post where I recognize that (almost) none of my followers watch Aquarion EVOL. Oh welp. I’m really sleepy so forgive any typo I mgight make.
I have soooo many mixed feelings towards this pairing. It’s like one of those ships you only like as a ship and not because you love both characters? I mean, I think it’s pretty much acknowledged that most of fandom hates Mikono because of her personality… And it’s a shame to say that I’m between those people.
Now, I’d like to go more in detail as why I don’t like her, but I’m just gonna talk about this ship in general. I like it mostly because of Kagura, because ‘aaaww wild beast guy wants his girlfriend back’, I mean, if we have watched the same series, the guy’s just desperate to get his woman. And I say really desperate.
So part of what I like these two as couple (as much as they probably won’t end together) is mainly because I’d feel bad for Kagura if he doesn’t get her because he puts so much effort and passion for Mikono to reject him right in his face. It’s more of a ‘I want them together because Kagura really wants to be with her’.
But let’s face it, Aquarion EVOL main character’s romances are pretty lame, to be honest. It’s forced, the characters just fall in love out of nowhere with the petty excuse of ‘love at first sight’ and ‘destiny’.
Even I accept that aside from smelling good and supposedly being the reincarnation of his girlfriend, Kagura doesn’t have much reasons to fall in love with Mikono. He doesn’t know anything about her, they have little to no interaction at all, and when it comes to relationships, Amata’s way more ahead than him but for understandable reasons (no speech impairment, no ‘country’s enemy’, etc).
Plus, we barely know anything about Kagura as a person (not as Apollo’s reincarnation), we just know he’s some wild fanservice bishonen who likes to fight and it’s obsessionally in love with Mikono for no apparent reason more than ‘She smells good’… And then? What? Personality, development? Nothing? SIIIIGH. I really wish they had more interaction…
Ugh, really, if someone’s looking for good romance, don’t watch Aquarion EVOL. I’m already hating how the main pairing’s relationships are going, and seriously I’m just watching this show just to see how Kawamori will end all this.
